Straight Line Communications is seeking an experienced Low Voltage Cable Technician in New Jersey to install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cabling across commercial projects.

Ideal candidates will have 8+ years in structured cabling, strong CAT6/CAT6A termination skills, and the ability to read construction drawings. On-site work, safety, and teamwork are essential as projects progress.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of structured cabling experience.
  • Strong CAT6/CAT6A termination and testing experience.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and cabling schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage field responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have own industry-standard tools.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, and test CAT6/CAT6A structured cabling systems.
  • Install and terminate patch panels, racks, cabinets, and cable management systems.
  • Install and terminate single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and network diagrams.
  • Perform cable certification and testing using Fluke or equivalent testers.
  • Troubleshoot cabling and network connectivity issues.
  • Coordinate with project managers, IT teams, and other trades on-site.
  • Assist with data room buildouts and network infrastructure installations.
  • Operate lifts up to 40 feet (certification is a plus).
  • Travel to job sites as needed.

Straight Line Communications is a growing technology and infrastructure company specializing in structured cabling and network solutions. We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Cable Technician with a strong background in commercial structured cabling and network infrastructure installations.

This position is ideal for a skilled, detail-oriented technician with hands-on experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cabling systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, and test CAT6/CAT6A structured cabling systems
  • Install and terminate patch panels, racks, cabinets, and cable management systems
  • Install and terminate single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fiber optic installation and termination
  • Fiber certifications (FOA, Corning, BICSI, or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Experience with CCTV, access control, and other low-voltage systems
  • Experience using cable certification tools and documentation software
  • OSHA certification or other safety training
