Job summary

Hamilton Barnes seeks a Data Centre Operations Engineer to build and run the low-latency colocation infrastructure behind a global trading platform. The role spans rack builds, cabling, and large deployment projects in a hands-on, travel-heavy environment.

This role requires strong data centre fundamentals, cabling expertise, and experience with PC/server hardware, with opportunities across junior to senior levels.

Qualifications

• Strong data centre fundamentals: power, redundancy, cooling, and airflow.
• Solid copper/fibre cabling skills and structured cabling best practices.
• Experience building PC/server hardware.
• Great communication and organisation; hands-on role with travel.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and document installations, upgrades, and maintenance across data centre estate.
• Travel to regional and remote sites to lead projects and operational work.
• Oversee and quality-check remote hands tasks.
• Install and cable racks to standard, servers, switches, PDUs, structured copper and fibre.
• Manage inventory, forecast hardware needs, and coordinate logistics.
• Partner with internal teams, vendors, and external providers to protect uptime.
