Job summary

The University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for an Assistant Professor/Instructor of Low Brass. This is a nine-month, 100% appointment beginning August 24, 2026, with duties including teaching applied low brass lessons to undergraduate music students and other courses as appropriate.

Required qualifications include a master's degree for the Instructor track or a terminal degree for the Teaching Assistant Professor track, plus a proven performance record on low brass and teaching on

Qualifications

  • Masters degree required for the Instructor position
  • Terminal degree required for the Teaching Assistant Professor position
  • Record of musical performance on low brass and successful teaching on trombone, euphonium and tuba

Responsibilities

  • Teach applied low brass lessons to undergraduate students.
  • Teach courses in the department curriculum (e.g., jazz ensemble, brass techniques, chamber music).
  • Actively recruit and retain students for the Department of Music.
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote the Department of Music within the university and the broader community.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, academic advising, and department/university service.
