Overview
The Server Assistant is responsible for providing refined, luxurious service and guest satisfaction according to the standards of the property. The Server Assistant will handle delivering food to guests as well as assisting servers with service.
Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge of all menu items and specials, and provide guests with general descriptions of food and beverage items.
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of table set‑up and service, using correct glassware, utensils, settings and garnishes.
- Use equipment only as intended and maintain proper maintenance practices.
- Apply proper food handling and food service techniques for safe food service.
- Assist the server in taking food and beverage orders in a congenial and timely manner, ensuring accurate entry and delivery.
- Maintain basic knowledge of the POS and manual systems.
- Exhibit a friendly, helpful and courteous manner when dealing with guests and fellow associates.
- Maintain positive guest relations at all times, anticipating guests’ needs and responding promptly.
- Be familiar with all hotel services, features and local attractions, and respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Work closely with the expeditor (and chef) to prepare the pass for expediting.
- Comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards, meeting service standards at all times.
- Practice all safety and loss prevention procedures.
- Ensure tables are well maintained and hygienic, monitoring cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned station and service areas.
- Remove soiled wares from tables and transport them to the dishwashing area.
- Set up and clean dining areas, maintaining or exceeding hospitality and service standards.
- Meet or exceed standards of appearance, cleanliness, personal sanitation and hygiene.
- Complete side work duties as directed by management.
- Assist various outlets and departments with food delivery and other tasks as needed to support the operation.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a food runner, server assistant, or host in a fine dining restaurant or luxury hotel environment is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Excellent written, verbal, and group presentation communication skills and command of the English language.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals or small groups of people.
- Attention to detail, speed and accuracy; ability to prioritize, organize and follow‑up.
- Clear thinker who remains calm and resolves problems using good judgment, follows directions thoroughly, and understands guests’ service needs.
- Capable of working cohesively with co‑workers as part of a team, with minimal supervision, and maintaining confidentiality of guest information and hotel data.
- Physical ability to transport up to 40 pounds, endure various movements throughout work areas, reach up and down, and remain stationary at times.
- Flexible schedule that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Bilingual communications abilities are a strong plus.
- California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certificate and California Food Handler Card (preferred).

Pay
The pay scale for this position is between $20.96 and $23.29 per hour. This is the pay range for this position that the Hotel reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual rates will be based on a number of factors, such as experience, type of hotel luxury experience, and/or Fine Dining Restaurant Experience.
