Job summary

Cox Enterprises is seeking a dependable yard driver to operate vehicles in auction lanes, assist with vehicle movement across the lot, and support safety initiatives. The role requires basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to handle both manual and automatic transmissions.

Responsibilities include aiding customers and staff, performing jump-starts, tire inflation, and incidental vehicle operation tasks; overtime may be required in line with business needs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Typically less than 2 years’ related field experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to identify flats, low gas, or jump-starts.

  • Drive vehicles through Auction lanes on sale day in a safe manner.
  • Drive vehicles to and from designated areas on Auction premises and to/from customer dealerships and businesses, following rules and safety protocols.
  • Line up and park vehicles as directed; locate any 'lost' vehicles.
  • Assist with getting vehicles operating as needed, including inflating tires and jump-starts.
  • Assist customers and coworkers as needed; maintain safety procedures.
  • Support safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; may require overtime.

Job description

Shift Availability:
Monday - Friday
7am - 4pm
11am - 8pm

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive vehicles through Auction lanes on sale day in a safe manner.
  • Drive vehicles to and from designated areas on Auction premises and to and from customer dealerships and businesses, while observing Auction driving rules, and rules of the road and demonstrating courtesy and defensive driving principles.
  • Line up and park vehicles in the correct order as directed by the supervisor or team leader, move vehicles as necessary, and locate "lost" vehicles.
  • Assist with getting vehicles operating as needed. Inflate tires and jump-start vehicles using a battery box and air tank if necessary. Notify the supervisor when a vehicle is inoperative; notify the Service or Gas Truck Driver when the vehicle is out of gas.
  • Assist customers (i.e., dealers, account representatives, rental agencies, etc.) and coworkers as needed.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
  • Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Generally, less than 2 years’ experience in a related field
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of identifying (i.e., flat tires, low gas, jump-starting vehicles.)

Preferred

  • 6 months of auction or driving experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of lot operations/lot layout preferred.
  • Knowledge of LDM preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear, vision abilities required to include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 1-15 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk long distances.

Work Environment

  • Constant exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise level. (100% outdoors)
