Job description

Position Summary

This Long-Term Substitute Teacher position starts at the end of August 2026. It involves teaching Science to students in grades 9‑12, managing daily classroom tasks, collaborating with faculty, administration, students, parents, and school personnel to promote academic success and spiritual growth. The teacher is expected to deliver two sections of AP Biology and two sections of Marine Biology, integrating Biblical principles, a Christian worldview, and prayer throughout the curriculum.

Essential Duties
  • Provide students with a focused, Christ-centered, challenging, and engaging educational experience in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Integrate Biblical principles, Christian worldview, and prayer throughout the curriculum.
  • Teach skills, knowledge, and concepts in one or more subjects following the approved curriculum and appropriate learning activities to enable students to achieve established course standards of achievement.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies using educational equipment, books, and learning aids.
  • Develop well‑structured lesson plans according to school policy and course objectives.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Prepare, correct, assess, and grade assignments and tests.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records per school policy.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an effective learning environment.
  • Communicate with students, parents, faculty, staff, counselors, and administrators regarding academic and behavioral issues.
  • Ensure proper supervision of students during all school-related on‑ and off‑campus activities.
  • Carry out safety and emergency procedures per school policy.
  • Maintain appropriate professional interaction with students, parents, administrators, co‑workers, and other colleagues.
Additional Duties
  • Report for work on time and prepared; maintain dependable attendance.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment.
  • Maintain instructional materials for substitute teachers.
  • Supervise Daily Gathering settings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, or Department Chair.
Qualifications
  • BA or BS Degree; twenty‑four to thirty‑six hours of college work in the subject area taught.
  • Completion of an approved teacher training program with successful completion of student teaching at a recognized college or university, or proven successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Equivalent directly‑related job experience or any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed.
Licenses, Certificates, and Clearances
  • Cleared background/fingerprint check.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Cleared TB assessment.
  • Completion of Ministry Safe Training.
  • California Teaching Credential preferred.

Physical Requirements

The employee must possess the physical abilities to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above, including moving around the campus, sitting for extended periods, speaking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel, or grasp objects; occasionally standing, walking, pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 50 pounds; reaching with hands or arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, tasting, or smelling.
