Job summary

Gulf Stream Marine in Houston, TX seeks a Longshoreman to support vessel holds and terminal operations. You will monitor, count, verify, and document cargo movements across vessel, warehouse, and trucking interactions, ensuring proper handling and documentation throughout the process.

This role requires hands-on experience with cargo securing, equipment operation, and safety procedures in high‑risk environments. You will work with minimal supervision and mentor junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in vessel hold operations and cargo handling.
• Specialized training in PIT operation, cargo securing, and equipment use.
• Must have an active TWIC card.

Responsibilities

• Hooking on cargoes in the hold for unloading and unhooking during loading onto the vessel.
• Understanding cargo stowage, dunnage & securing requirements.
• Operating PIT’s stowing cargo on the vessel - Small Forklift or Yard Mule.
• Proficient with chain & chop saws.
• Securing cargo with lashings and carpentry & safely removing lashings/securements.
• Visually inspect the lifting gear.
• Maintain a clean work area.
• Must have an active TWIC card.

In this hands-on role, you’ll play an important part in keeping our terminal and stevedoring operations safe, accurate, and efficient. You’ll monitor, count, verify, and document cargo movements across vessel, warehouse, and trucking operations while helping ensure cargo is properly handled, accounted for, and documented throughout the process.

The Longshoreman position involves advanced labor tasks in vessel holds and terminal operations. Employees are expected to have substantial experience and specialized training to perform complex cargo handling, equipment operation, and securing procedures. The role demands a strong understanding of cargo stowage and safety practices in high-risk environments. Proficient in a wide range of tasks and tools. Capable of troubleshooting common issues and making minor adjustments. Works with minimal supervision and contributes to process improvements. Mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in vessel hold operations and advanced cargo handling.
• Completion of specialized training in PIT operation, cargo securing, and equipment use. Proficiency in operating forklifts, yard mules, chain saws, and chop saws. Strong understanding of cargo stowage principles and safety standards. Physical ability to perform demanding tasks in varied environmental conditions.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Must have an active TWIC card.
