Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking two Long-Term Substitute Teachers for 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th grade classes at Peaks Island Elementary, starting January 2027. You will plan rigorous lessons, foster joyful learning, and support students’ intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.

Two temporary positions cover January–April 2027. A teaching certificate and CHRC clearance are required; cross-curricular collaboration and culturally inclusive instruction are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of curriculum standards and effective instructional practices.
• Ability to implement trauma-informed practices that engage culturally diverse students.
• Record of using standards-based curriculum to drive student growth.
• Strong collaboration with administrators, colleagues and parents.

Responsibilities

• Plan engaging and rigorous lessons aligned to standards.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress using standards-based assessments.
• Differentiate instruction to address varied learning needs.
• Collaborate with staff to support student well-being and success.
