Odyssey Charter School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher (Grades 6-8) to cover parental leave and support middle school instruction. The role reports to the Building Principal and requires following lesson plans aligned with Delaware standards.

  • Effectively provide instruction and support to a diverse population of middle school students in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher.
  • Follow established lesson plans and instructional materials to maintain continuity of learning and support instruction aligned with Delaware Content Standards.
  • Adapt instructional strategies, when appropriate, to address students' individual needs, interests, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Implement documented accommodations, modifications, behavioral supports, and other student-specific requirements as directed.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that supports academic achievement and whole-child development.
  • Encourage students to think critically, solve problems, actively participate in learning, and develop a lifelong enthusiasm for education.
  • Establish and reinforce clear expectations for student behavior, responsibility, respect, and positive citizenship.
  • Monitor student engagement, understanding, behavior, and completion of assigned work throughout the instructional period.
  • Provide appropriate assistance to students experiencing academic, behavioral, or social-emotional challenges and seek support from school specialists or administrators when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assignments completed, classroom activities, and any significant concerns or incidents.
  • Provide the regularly assigned teacher and/or administrator with a clear summary of instruction delivered, student progress, and relevant classroom matters.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, instructional materials, and school facilities.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with applicable laws, Board policies, administrative regulations, school procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Demonstrate Filotimo through integrity, compassion, responsibility, service, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of students and the OCS community.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with teachers, administrators, specialists, paraprofessionals, families, and other members of the school community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proficient in English Language, both written and spoken.
  • Experience teaching in relevant Grades in an immersion or foreign language program preferred
  • Relevant teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching students with diverse needs
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • A global citizenship and collaborative mindset
  • Experience working in a multicultural/multilingual environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of active Delaware Teaching License and Certificate in required content area in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1531 preferred, not required
    • Including successful completion of Praxis II exams.
  • Experience working with middle school students.
  • Special education experience, training, or credentials strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of IEP accommodations, inclusive practices, and positive behavior supports is a plus.
  • Strong classroom-management, communication, flexibility, and organizational skills.
