Gloucester Township Public Schools in Gloucester Township, NJ, is seeking a Long-term Substitute Special Education Teacher for Elementary and Middle School positions. Must hold or be eligible for a New Jersey instructional certificate with Special Education qualifications.

The position requires delivery of standards-based instruction, development of lesson plans, and ongoing assessment of students with disabilities.

Qualifications

• Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate (Teacher of Preschool K-3; Elementary K-5; Elementary School Teacher; Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of Handicapped).
• Special Education K-6, Teacher of Students with Disabilities, or Teacher of Handicap.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competence in subject field(s) assigned and deemed highly qualified per NJDOE standards.
• Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Employs instructional methods and materials that meet stated objectives.
• Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students and provides progress reports as required.
• Participates in identifying and meeting pupil needs in cooperation with other professional staff members.
• Maintains standards of pupil behavior with support of administrators.
• Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
• Prepares for classes and develops general lesson plans related to curriculum goals.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by policy and regulations.
• Cooperates professionally with other staff and assists in selecting books and materials.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL:

Instructs assigned pupils in accordance with curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

• Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
• Participates in identifying and meeting pupil needs in cooperation with other professional staff members.
• Establishes and maintains, with the support of administrators, standards of pupil behavior appropriate to the activity.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
• Prepares for classes assigned and develops general lesson plans related to established curriculum goals.
• Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
• Makes a reasonable effort to cooperate professionally with other members of the staff.
• Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

COMPENSATION: The per diem rate established as budgeted and approved by the Board of Education for Substitute Teachers.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-monthyear

VACATION: There is no vacation time allotted to this position.

EVALUATION:

Performance of the job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
