Job Summary

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and perform related duties as required. This is a full‑time position for the defined dates listed below and qualifies the teacher for benefits during that period.

General Qualifications
  • Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Preference for previous substitute experience in Rantoul City Schools.
Duties
  • Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing student progress.
  • Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
  • Communicate with parents, after consulting with administration, regarding student academic or behavioral updates.
  • Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by a teacher; when plans are unavailable, use appropriate resources to create plans.
  • Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records.
  • Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept, ensuring fairness in teacher‑student relationships.
  • Manage classroom organization and clean the rooms at the end of the day.
  • Report to the teacher and administration at the end of the day, providing ratings on lesson plans and instructions.
  • Modify instruction to meet student needs and work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching, maintain good oral and written communication skills, and exercise sound professional judgment.
Other Duties
  • Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands
  • Effectively communicate with parents, colleagues, administration, and all members of the educational community.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smartboard, etc.) effectively.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor classrooms/school, exposure to student noise, laundry mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases.
  • Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips, exposure to temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold) and mowed grass.
  • Regular work attendance required.
Salary and Benefits
  • $243.36 per day for the length of assignment.
  • Sick/personal: Sick leave will accumulate at a rate of one sick day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked, and .25 personal day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked.
Dates of Position

Location: JW Eater Junior High School, District: Rantoul City Schools. The duration may vary depending on the district’s ability to fill the position with a qualified teacher. The position will begin on August 12, 2026. The district will hire a fully‑certified teacher when possible and will terminate the long‑term substitute position when the vacancy is filled, providing advanced notice to the substitute teacher where possible.
