Job Title

Long-Term Substitute Teacher - 2nd Grade Bilingual teacher - Pleasant Acres Elementary

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long-Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes and performs related duties as required. This full‑time position is for the defined dates and includes qualifying for benefits for that time period.

General Qualifications
  • Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.
Responsibilities
  • Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs which would include lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing progress of student work (grades).
  • Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed for the position.
  • Communicate with parents as needed after consulting with administration, providing information on academic or behavior.
  • Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
  • When available, follow lesson plans and instructions provided by teacher to provide instruction to assigned students; if plans are not available use appropriate resources in the classroom and nearby teachers to create plans.
  • Responsible for establishing positive learning expectation standards for all students.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records.
  • Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and exhibit understanding and respect for students.
  • Manage classroom organization.
  • Cleans and organizes the rooms at the end of the day.
  • Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day and can provide a rating to administration of the lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher.
  • Modify instruction to meet student needs, work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives in providing an appropriate educational program.
  • Put into practice contemporary principles and practices of teaching, with good oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and professional judgment.
Other Duties
  • Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands
  • Effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents (consulting with administration first), colleagues, administration and all other members of the educational community.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smartboard, etc.) effectively.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor classrooms: exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass and possible communicable diseases.
  • Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips: exposure to temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold) and mowed grass.
  • Regular work attendance.
Salary And Benefits
  • $243.36 per day for length of assignment.
  • Sick/personal: Sick and personal leave will accumulate at a rate of 1 sick day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked and 0.25 personal day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked.
Dates Of Position

The duration of the position may vary depending on the ability of the District to fill the position with a qualified teacher. In some cases, the duration will be defined. The position will begin on August 12, 2026. The District will hire a fully‑certified teacher for the vacancy when possible; for unfilled vacancies the District will leave the position posted until a fully‑certified teacher is hired, at which time the long‑term substitute position will terminate. The District will provide advanced notice to this substitute teacher.

Physical Job Requirements
  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands dexterously (use fingers to handle, feel), reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, talk or hear, smell.
  • Lift and carry: up to 10 pounds, up to 25 pounds, up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequency: Never – 1‑33% of time; Occasionally – 34‑66%; Frequently – 66‑100%; Continuously – as required.
