Deer River Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as Long Term Substitute - Dean of Students. This temporary role supports school leadership in fostering a positive learning environment and promoting student success.

The ideal candidate will hold a Minnesota teaching license or administrative credential, bring strong leadership and conflict-resolution skills, and be committed to restorative practices. The assignment runs November 18, 2026 to January 13, 2027.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Administration, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minnesota teaching license or administrative credential required.
• Experience in school settings with student management or leadership.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of behavior management and restorative practices.

Responsibilities

Approximate Dates:

November 18, 2026 - January 13, 2027

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, and during extracurricular activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to address student needs and resolve conflicts.
• Conduct investigations into student behavior incidents and determine appropriate consequences in alignment with school policies.
• Provide guidance and support to students in academic and social-emotional matters.
• Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and school administration to foster open communication and collaboration.
• Maintain accurate records of student behavior, interventions, and outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Valid teaching license or administrative credential in the state of Minnesota.
• Previous experience in a school setting, particularly in student management or leadership roles.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
• Knowledge of best practices in student discipline, behavior management, and restorative practices.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
