Job summary

CVU HIGH SCHOOL seeks a certified Athletic Trainer to join our activities team. The ATC will oversee safety, care, and treatment for student-athletes, reporting to the Activities Director and collaborating with coaches and medical staff.

This is a long-term substitute position for the remainder of the 2026-27 school year with a competitive hourly rate of $40–$60. Priority given to internal candidates and early applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and valid ATC/CAT certification.
• Certified in Professional Rescuer First Aid, CPR, and AED.
• Licensed by the State of Vermont.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Organize and oversee the athletic training program, including injury prevention and conditioning.
• Assess and manage athletic injuries or illnesses with evidence-based care.
• Coordinate RTL and RTP protocols and manage return-to-play decisions.
• Provide treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for athletes.
• Maintain medical records, inventories, and EMR documentation.
• Provide coverage for home events and practices; collaborate with coaches and caregivers.
• Refer student-athletes to physicians when needed.
• Maintain an Athletic Training Room and Emergency Action Plans.

Long-Term Substitute Athletic Trainer Needed

Location: Champlain Valley Union High School

This position will remain open until filled. However, applications received within the first seven days of posting will receive priority consideration. Internal candidates will also be prioritized over external applicants during this initial seven-day window.

Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) seeks a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) to join our activities team. The ATC will be responsible for the safety, care, and treatment of our students - primarily those who participate in athletics. The Athletic Trainer is an integral component of our team who develops strong relationships with students, faculty/staff, and the larger community. The Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Activities Director.

Primary Responsibilities

• Organizes and oversees the athletic training program by:
  • Injury prevention through strength and conditioning programs, equipment fitting, taping, bandaging, bracing, and nutrition.
  • Recognition, evaluation, and assessment of athletic/orthopedic injuries or illnesses
  • Managing concussions as well as coordinating both return to learn (RTL), and return to play (RTP) protocols for student-athletes.
  • Treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletes with athletic/orthopedic injury or illnesses
  • Supervision, Organization, and administration of the athletic training program and facilities. Duties may include but are not limited to: ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, maintaining medical records on EMR system, injury reports, and daily treatment logs.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for home athletic events, and practices.
  • Coordinate efforts with coaches, caregivers, and other qualified allied health professionals.
  • Supply teams with appropriate medical kits for their activities.
  • Supervision, and maintenance of the athletic training room.
  • Implementation and management of Athletic Emergency Action Plans & Coordination with local emergency responders.
  • Professional development, maintaining NATABOC certification, and VT State Licensure.
  • Refer student-athletes to physicians and other medical personnel as needed.
  • Performs other duties and services as assigned by the Director of Student Activities.
