Job Description

The adaptive physical education teacher will provide direct services to students with disabilities, including but not limited to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Designs and directs adaptive physical education classes
  • Prepares relevant gross motor and gym class materials
  • Adapts activities and equipment to meet the unique needs of each student
  • Provides instruction on motor skills, fitness, and overall physical development
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other related service providers to support student progress
  • Participates in professional development that is specific to the field and meets requirements to maintain licensure
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with adaptive and mobility equipment
  • Experience with behavior management/de-escalation strategies
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education preferred
  • Valid Physical Education PreK-8 License through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred
  • Certification by the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID) preferred
Reports To:
  • Building principal and special education team administrator
  • Director of Special Education & Special Education Coordinator

$125.00 per day, $150.00 per day after 20 consecutive days
