Long Term Substitute 8th Grade Language Arts
Long-Term Substitute Teacher - 5th grade bilingual teacher - Eastlawn Elementary

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long-Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes and performs related duties as required. This position is full-time for the defined dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits for the time period.

General Qualifications
  • Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.
Responsibilities
  • Fill long-term substitute teaching needs including lesson planning with assistance from administration and teachers and assessing progress of student work.
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
  • Communicate with parents as necessary after consulting with administration.
  • Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • When available, follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the teacher; if plans are not available, use appropriate resources and work with neighboring teachers to create plans.
  • Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records.
  • Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept; maintain fairness in teacher-student relationships and display understanding and respect for students.
  • Manage classroom organization and clean and organize rooms at the end of the day.
  • Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day and offer a rating of lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher.
  • Modify instruction to meet student needs and work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching, exhibit good oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and professional judgment.
Other Duties
  • Follow district procedures for reporting self-absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, administration, and all members of the educational community.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Use web-based programs, e-mail, and technology (laptop, Smartboard, etc.) effectively.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor classrooms and exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases.
  • Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips; exposure to temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold) and mowed grass.
  • Regular work attendance.
Salary and Benefits
  • $243.36 per day for length of assignment.
  • Sick/personal: Sick leave accumulates at 1 sick day per continuous month worked and .25 personal day per continuous month worked.
Dates of Position

The duration of the position may vary depending on the ability of the District to fill the position with a qualified teacher. In some cases, the duration will be defined. This position will begin on August 12, 2026. The District will hire a fully-certified teacher for the vacancy when possible, and for unfilled vacancies the District will leave the position posted until a fully-certified teacher is available, at which time the long-term substitute position will terminate.
