The Long-Term Substitute (LTS) Teacher at KIPP St. Louis is a full-time, temporary regional employee assigned to KIPP St. Louis schools (K-12).

LTS teachers provide instructional coverage for extended teacher absences by delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction, managing the classroom, monitoring student progress, and performing the regular duties of the absent teacher. Assignments typically last 6–12 weeks and may be reassigned based on district needs.

Qualifications

• 60 college credits and Missouri Substitute Certification.
• Passion for teaching in the city of St. Louis.
• Dedication to helping children grow and learn.
• Bachelor’s degree and Missouri Substitute Certification.
• Experience substituting or working with the youth preferred.
• Experience in a high-performing, data-driven school environment.
• Track record of driving significant student achievement gains.

Job Description

The Long-Term Substitute (LTS) Teacher is a full-time, temporary regional employee assigned to KIPP St. Louis schools based on staffing needs (K-12). LTS teachers provide instructional coverage for extended teacher absences by delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction, managing the classroom, monitoring student progress, and performing the regular duties of the absent teacher. Assignments typically last 6–12 weeks, or longer, and may be reassigned based on district needs.

Inputs: What will I be doing in my day-to-day work?

Grade-Level Rigor & Access

Plan and deliver instruction where all students engage in grade-level standards, texts, and rigorous tasks daily

Internalize curriculum to ensure alignment to standards, pacing, and high-quality outcomes

What will I be evaluated on?

Instruction consistently ensures that all students engage in grade-level standards, tasks, and content aligned to curriculum and pacing, with scaffolds that maintain rigor. Student work demonstrates analysis, justification, and application, resulting in increased access and success with grade-level learning.

Student Engagement

Design lessons where students do the majority of the thinking, talking, reading, writing, and problem-solving

Facilitate structured academic discourse that requires students to explain, justify, and build on ideas using academic language

Ensure engagement reflects cognitive work, not just participation or compliance

Students consistently do the cognitive work of the lesson, engaging in meaningful discourse, reasoning, writing, and problem-solving. Engagement is driven by rigorous thinking, with students independently explaining, justifying, and building on ideas using academic language.

Culture of Learning

Establish and maintain a classroom environment grounded in high expectations, strong routines, and productive struggle

Implement systems that maximize instructional time and ensure students remain focused, accountable, and independent

Create a safe and structured environment where students take academic risks and persist through challenging work

Additional Information

What we bring to the table:

Compensation: $175/day ($21.88/hour) and MUST have a Missouri Substitute Certification.

***Please note that as a Long-Term Substitute, you are only paid for the days you work. There are no paid holidays or paid breaks. In addition, you are not paid for any unexpected snow days or school closure days.

Benefits: If consecutively employed during a probationary period of 90 days, team members will receive the option to elect our substitute gold benefits package (for employees only), consisting of a $0 deductible in medical, dental, and vision insurance.
