Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field preferred.

• Strong classroom management and a warm, engaging learning environment.

About the Role:

Location: 21705 58th Avenue West, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043

Brighton School is seeking a dedicated and engaging Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Third Grade to provide continuity of instruction and classroom leadership for our third-grade students. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for elementary education, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to create a positive, structured, and inspiring learning environment.

This long-term substitute role will support the academic, social, and emotional growth of third-grade students while maintaining established classroom routines and instructional expectations. The contract hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The long-term substitute assignment is expected to run from March through June, with a preferred start date in January or February to allow time in the classroom for onboarding, transition, and collaboration with the current teacher and campus team.

The early start period will allow the incoming substitute teacher to become familiar with students, classroom procedures, curriculum, and instructional priorities before assuming full responsibility for the class.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the school’s third-grade curriculum and academic expectations
• Teach core subject areas, including language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, while supporting students’ continued academic progress
• Maintain established classroom routines and provide continuity of instruction throughout the long-term assignment
• Prepare and implement lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments that address student needs and curriculum objectives
• Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, confidence, and responsibility
• Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate support to accommodate varied learning needs and styles
• Monitor student progress, maintain accurate classroom records, and communicate relevant updates to school leadership and families
• Collaborate with the current teacher, school leadership, faculty, and staff to support a smooth transition and consistent student experience
• Uphold Brighton School’s expectations, policies, and standards for student safety, conduct, and academic excellence
• Participate in school activities, meetings, conferences, and special events as needed

What We’re Looking For:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Education, or a related field is preferred
• Previous elementary classroom teaching or long-term substitute teaching experience is preferred
• Experience teaching or working with students at the third-grade level is strongly preferred
• Knowledge of elementary instructional practices and the ability to teach core academic subjects
• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a warm, engaging, and structured learning environment
• A positive, energetic, patient, and professional demeanor with strong communication and collaboration skills
• Flexibility and the ability to adapt to student needs, campus expectations, and evolving classroom priorities
