Job summary

Birch Meadow Elementary School in Reading, MA is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Paraeducator for November–December 2026. The role supports students with disabilities under supervision of special education staff to implement IEPs and adapt lessons, promoting inclusion and safety.

Responsibilities include academic and behavioral support, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and data collection to track student progress.

Qualifications

High school diploma required.
Preferred: experience with students with disabilities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Patience, empathy, and passion for diverse learners.
CPR/First Aid/Restraint trainings completed.

Responsibilities

Assist teachers and specialists in accommodating/modifying lessons and implementing IEPs for students with disabilities.
Provide academic and behavioral support to students inside and outside the classroom.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, nurses and other professionals to create a safe, supportive learning environment.
Foster an inclusive classroom by promoting social and emotional growth while ensuring safety.
Supervise and assist students with daily tasks, mobility, transitions, hygiene, self-care, self-regulation, and communication.
Model appropriate behavior for students.
