Job summary

Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy seeks a dedicated Junior High School Science Teacher to deliver NGSS-aligned lessons across physical, earth and space, life sciences, and engineering. You will foster inquiry, build a respectful classroom, and collaborate with colleagues for continual improvement.

You will maintain routines, communicate with clarity, and design tasks that challenge scholars while providing scaffolding to meet diverse learning needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Rhode Island teacher certification by date of hire.
• Certification in relevant coursework for teaching.
• CPI certification.
• Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Utilize Next Generation Science Standards to deliver cross-cutting lessons in physical science, earth and space science, life science, and engineering.
• Encourage scholars’ use of scientific inquiry to understand core concepts.
• Create an environment of respect and rapport in the classroom.
• Collaborate with team members for planning and reflective practice.
• Establish routines and procedures for smooth classroom operation and time use.
• Model precise and expressive language to communicate expectations and directions.
• Engage scholars with questions and discussions to promote higher-level thinking.
• Guide tasks and activities that require complex thinking with appropriate scaffolding.
• Use formative and summative assessments to drive instructional planning and monitor learning.
