The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking an experienced long-term substitute school nurse float to bridge health care and education in a specialized school-nursing role. The nurse will provide direct care, manage IHCPs, document health encounters, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support students with diverse health needs.

Required BSN and MA RN license with CPR, plus preferred pediatric/acute care experience.

Job Description

The public schools of Brookline, a large, dynamic, diverse and exciting school community, is seeking an experienced long term substitute school nurse float who will serve in a pivotal role that bridges health care and education in this specialized nursing position.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and appropriate nursing care to students; assessment, treatment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral as indicated.
• Prepare and maintain accurate student health records, including current immunizations as mandated by state regulations. Timely documentation of daily health encounters into Electronic Health Record.
• Promote a healthy school environment, including ensuring immunization compliance.
• Create, update and implement comprehensive Individual Health Care Plans for students with health care concerns.
• Administer daily and PRN (as needed) medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by the student's health care provider and in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
• Implement and record required screening programs; notify parents when further medical evaluation is indicated.
• Collaboration with interdisciplinary team in development of 504 or IEP’s as indicated
• Collaborate with school staff regarding safety plans for students with special needs.
• Employ cultural competency in delivering effective care in this diverse community.
• Initiate emergency procedures for students and staff as needed.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding individual student health issue in a timely manner
• Prepare and submit monthly report and all state mandated reports to Coordinator of School Health in timely manner.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by Coordinator of School Health

Abilities Required

• Ability to provide direct nursing care
• Ability to administer first aid and CPR
• Ability to respond to an emergency including carrying emergency bag, climbing stairs, and pushing student in a wheelchair.
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to use technology including electronic health records

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Current MA Registered Nurse License;
• Current CPR certification;

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a nurse, preferably in pediatrics, emergency or public health
• MA DESE School Nurse License preferred
