Job summary

St. Edward Central Catholic High School is seeking a long-term substitute English teacher to cover a maternity leave from January 4, 2027, through early March 2027.

The teacher will instruct 12th Grade World Literature (regular, honors) and 12th Grade AP Literature, plus Publications course materials prepared by the regular teacher. Responsibilities include leading daily text discussions, guiding close reading and literary analysis, grading assignments, maintaining routines, and ensuring

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; English-related field preferred.
Illinois Professional Educator License preferred.
Previous high school teaching experience preferred.
AP English Literature teaching experience preferred but not required.
Strong knowledge of English language arts, literature, and literary analysis.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the English Department, Dean of Academics, and other faculty as needed.
Follow pacing, school policies, and safety guidelines.
Deliver engaging instruction and lead discussions of texts.
Maintain attendance and academic records; provide timely feedback.
Support Catholic identity and mission in classroom practice.
