Job summary

Central Nursing is seeking a Medical Records Coordinator to join our long-term care team. The role focuses on maintaining resident medical records and health information systems in compliance with federal and state guidelines, privacy policies, and DRG/ ICD-10 coding requirements.

Responsibilities include retrieving and filing records, auditing for accuracy, generating reports, and responding to requests for copies while ensuring confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or Equivalent.
  • Experience with ICD-10 coding system preferred.
  • Previous clerical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains records of active and discharged residents in accordance with established systems.
  • Helps record incidents/accidents in the facility and files in accordance with policies and procedure.
  • Retrieves patient records (manually/electronically) and delivers as necessary.
  • Records and files information such as nurse’s notes, resident assessments, progress notes, laboratory reports, x-ray results, etc., into resident charts.
  • Reviews all records to ensure ICD-10-CM and DRG coding is complete and accurate.
  • Generates reports as necessary.
  • Responds to requests for medical record copies in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, and maintains a log of all requests.
  • Conducts regular audits of active and discharged medical records to determine quality, accuracy, and completeness of content.
