Job description

Job Summary

Bucks IU oversees the Title I grant for Bucks County Youth Center to provide tutoring services within the treatment facility. Using computer-based diagnostic assessments, the tutor will collaborate closely with regular education teachers to give students a supportive, individualized learning experience. Progress is monitored through pre‑testing at entry and post‑testing prior to discharge. Remediation is based on academic needs and individual transition goals such as returning to the home school, completing a GED, admission to post‑secondary education, or entering the workforce.

Essential Functions
  • Administer computer‑based assessment tests to determine student success under Title I funds and maintain records of pre‑test and post‑test results.
  • Act as a liaison between teachers and students in the classroom, modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Collect and assess data on student outcomes, including:
    • Progress in grade level through pre/post testing.
    • Obtaining credit to enter mainstream educational programs.
    • Gaining credit for grade promotion requirements.
    • Obtaining a GED or high school diploma.
    • Entering a vocational program such as Federal Job Corps Programs.
    • Enlisting in military service.
  • Provide GED tutoring to students seeking to obtain their GED.
  • Support regular education teachers.
  • Create an environment that fosters respect and positive peer interaction.
  • Collaborate with administration to document resident participation, hours worked, and provide regular updates.
  • Meet periodically with the Bucks IU Program Director of Nonpublic and Federal Programs (or their designee) to provide program updates.
  • Complete the PA N&D Title I Assessment Reporting System form and maintain a hard‑copy log of the forms.

Work Environment

This position is within the detention center to support students who have been adjudicated. Specific safety requirements exist, and training is provided. The noise level is typical of a school environment.

Physical Demands

The employee regularly sits and uses hands, frequently walks, reaches with hands and arms, speaks, and hears. Standing for long periods, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
