Job summary

Avocado Green Brands is seeking a Logistics Transportation Manager to lead B2B transportation and distribution nationwide from their Fullerton, California site. You will own carrier relationships, negotiate rates, and design a scalable distribution network to support growing B2B partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or distribution management.
  • Experience managing B2B transportation and national/regional distribution networks.
  • Strong experience negotiating freight rates and managing carrier relationships.
  • Knowledge of LTL, FTL, parcel, 3PL, and other transportation modes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate transportation data into actionable decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as Google Workspace, including Sheets, Docs, Gmail, and Drive.
  • Experience with transportation management systems (FreightPOP), ERP systems (NetSuite), WMS (RF-Smart), and/or logistics analytics platforms.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • B2B Transportation & Delivery Management: Oversee daily transportation operations to ensure B2B customer orders are shipped and delivered on time and in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Carrier Management & Freight Procurement: Develop and manage relationships with LTL, FTL, regional, and other transportation providers; negotiate freight rates and contracts.
  • National Distribution Network Strategy: Design and optimize the distribution network based on locations, volume, costs, and growth.
  • Transportation Cost Management: Establish budgets and monitor freight spend; analyze costs and identify savings opportunities.
  • Performance & Continuous Improvement: Develop KPIs and regular reporting; drive root-cause analysis and process improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse, and Finance on transportation planning and onboarding of new partners.

Job description

THE ROLE

The Logistics Transportation Manager is responsible for managing and optimizing the company’s B2B transportation and distribution operations across the United States. This position ensures our Strategic Partner orders are delivered accurately, on time, and cost-effectively while developing and maintaining a reliable transportation network to support the company’s growing B2B partner base. The role will have primary ownership of carrier relationships, participation in freight rate negotiations, transportation performance, delivery execution, and the strategic development and execution of Avocado’s national distribution network. The ideal candidate combines strong operational execution with analytical and strategic thinking, using transportation data, market conditions, and customer requirements to continuously improve service levels and reduce logistics costs. The ideal candidate is both an operator and a strategist. They are comfortable managing the day-to-day urgency of getting B2B shipments delivered while also stepping back to ask whether the company has the right carriers, rates, distribution locations, and transportation strategy to support long-term growth. They should be highly analytical, commercially minded, and comfortable negotiating with transportation providers while building strong internal and external relationships. The successful candidate will take ownership of the transportation network and continuously look for ways to make the company’s B2B distribution operation more reliable, scalable, and cost-effective.

Note on Location: Here at Avocado Green Brands, we treasure teamwork and working together in person. Depending on the role, you will be working on‑site at one of our Fullerton locations.

Note on Pay Transparency: The pay range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000 annual.

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON…
  • B2B Transportation & Delivery Management Oversee daily transportation operations to ensure B2B customer orders are shipped and delivered on time and in accordance with customer requirements. Coordinate with internal operations, production, warehouse, sales, order processing, and customer service teams to resolve transportation issues and delivery exceptions. Monitor shipment status, delivery performance, freight claims, and other transportation-related issues. Establish and maintain service‑level expectations for B2B deliveries.
  • Carrier Management & Freight Procurement Develop and manage relationships with LTL, FTL, regional, and other transportation providers. Negotiate freight rates, accessorial charges, fuel programs, contracts, and service agreements to ensure competitive transportation costs. Regularly evaluate carrier performance, pricing, capacity, geographic coverage, and service quality. Conduct carrier bids and RFPs as necessary to identify cost savings and improve transportation coverage. Develop a diversified carrier network to ensure adequate capacity and minimize operational risk.
  • National Distribution Network Strategy Design and continuously optimize the company’s B2B distribution network based on customer locations, order volume, transportation costs, service requirements, and anticipated growth. Evaluate the appropriate mix of distribution centers, 3PLs, fulfillment partners, cross-docks, and direct‑to‑customer transportation. Analyze shipping lanes and customer density to determine optimal fulfillment and transportation strategies. Develop regional distribution strategies that balance transportation cost, inventory positioning, delivery speed, and customer service. Identify opportunities to consolidate freight, establish regional carrier partnerships, and improve shipment efficiency.
  • Transportation Cost Management Establish transportation budgets and monitor freight spend against financial targets. Analyze freight costs by customer, carrier, lane, region, shipment type, and other relevant dimensions. Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities without compromising customer service. Monitor accessorial charges, detention, reclassification, residential fees, fuel surcharges, and other transportation expenses. Develop reporting and KPIs to provide visibility into transportation costs and operational performance.
  • Performance & Continuous Improvement Establish transportation KPIs including on-time delivery, cost per shipment, cost per unit, carrier performance, freight claims, and delivery exceptions. Develop regular reporting to communicate transportation performance and opportunities to leadership. Identify root causes of transportation inefficiencies and implement corrective actions. Develop standard operating procedures and processes to improve transportation execution and scalability. Utilize transportation data and analytics to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership Partner with Sales and Customer Service to understand B2B customer requirements and develop appropriate delivery solutions. Work closely with Warehouse and Operations teams to coordinate shipping schedules, pickup windows, and fulfillment requirements. Collaborate with Finance to establish freight budgets, validate invoices, and identify cost discrepancies. Support business development and onboarding of new B2B partners by developing transportation and distribution plans. Provide logistics expertise during new product, customer, geographic, and channel expansions.

Must be able to wear personal protective gear like safety glasses. Must be comfortable working in an environment with machinery noise. Stationary position: Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time. Movements: Must be able to move throughout the warehouse to access different machines. Must be able to frequently move material weighing up to 50 pounds.
