Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a Logistics Technician with experience in the areas of material management and inventory control within a manufacturing environment to support enrichment technology programs. This position requires strong knowledge of warehousing processes, configuration management principles, quality assurance, and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) related system modules and how they provide an industry-focused solution to organization requirements. This position is within the Plasma Enrichment Process Management Group, which is in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

The Enrichment Science and Engineering Division serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists, engineers, technicians, and business professionals with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments. ESED is the national steward for research, development, and demonstration of enrichment technologies.

ORNL is a recognized leader in centrifuge and electromagnetic enrichment technology. We are the stewards and dispenser of the nation’s stable isotope inventory and have a legacy dating to the late 1940s. This division integrates the full enrichment process from chemical synthesis of feed materials through fabrication of the custom physical forms needed to support the user communities. You will work closely with a focused group of scientists, technicians, and engineers on challenging, fast paced technical projects in support of the DOE Isotope Program.

This has been a quickly expanding program at ORNL and offers significant opportunities for professional growth. The team demonstrates a collective excitement for the important work being accomplished and values creative solutions to developing technology and processes to solve the latest challenges. Successful development and deployment of isotope separation technologies requires acute attention to detail and continued consideration of personnel and equipment safety.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Execute daily material movement and handling activities to support active production and R&D
  • Ensure production data remains accurate within the warehousing system to enable effective planning, scheduling, and execution
  • Receive and transfer material between inventory locations, picking and staging as needed for job kits and ongoing operations
  • Support job kitting for both Production and R&D areas in alignment with scheduled demand
  • Uphold 5S standards to keep the warehouse safe, organized, and efficient
  • Own warehouse inventory accuracy, location control, and data integrity, including coordination of semi-annual cycle counts
  • Serve as a resource during engineering changes, proactively reviewing impacts on parts, availability, and material records
  • Monitor and correct material consumption reports, ensuring accurate backflush and scanning data within the ERP/WMS
  • Support optimizing warehouse layouts and workflows to meet current operational needs while maintaining flexibility for future growth
  • Engage regularly with cross-functional teams to coordinate solutions, improve processes, and maintain alignment on priorities
  • Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote equal opportunity by fostering a respectful workplace – in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.
Basic Qualifications:
  • AS degree with 5-7 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing support. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Hands-on background in warehouse operations including receiving, staging, and cycle counting
  • Understanding of supply chain and material management practices
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Clear and effective communication skills with leadership, project teams, and support staff
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control and material handling best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
  • Active DOE Q security clearance or the ability to obtain one
