City of Fort Smith is seeking a Warehouse Inventory position in the Utilities Department under the Logistics Supervisor. You will handle shipping, receiving, storage, and recordkeeping of parts, tools, and equipment in accordance with applicable regulations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, forklift certification within 6 months, and at least one year of warehouse experience. Strong organizational and computer skills are essential.

Job description

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Logistics Supervisor, this position is responsible for assigned inventory functions including purchasing, receiving, handling, storage, disbursement, shipping, and recordkeeping of materials, parts, tools, and equipment in the Utility Department; in compliance with requirements of the Arkansas Department of Health, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, Arkansas Department of Labor, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Consent Decree, and in coordination with the Utility Department comprehensive strategic management plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.

  • Perform shipping, receiving, disbursement, and recordkeeping of parts, tools, materials, and related items
  • Unload trucks, check in merchandise, and accurately match bills of lading and packing lists to purchase orders
  • Move materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas as needed
  • Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to size, type, style, color or product code
  • Maintain computerized and manual inventory records to ensure accurate inventory control
  • Participate in physical counts/audits as directed
  • Operate a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck and other equipment utilized in the warehouse
  • Ensure warehouse and designated areas are accessible, neat and orderly
  • Sweep, dust, and mop assigned areas
  • Perform assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed
  • Adhere to warehouse security and safety procedures
  • Regular attendance and timeliness is required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • One (1) year supply, stock, or warehouse experience
  • Must have or be able to obtain forklift certification within 6 months of employment
  • May consider any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work
Preferred
  • Water and sewer construction and maintenance experience
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Basic knowledge of warehouse operations, including safety procedures, computerized and manual inventory recordkeeping
  • Use and terminology of requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and other purchasing and inventory documents
  • Knowledge of proper procedures for operating, inspecting, and maintaining warehouse equipment
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively work at remote sites without immediate supervision
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to perform basic math, including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, and aptitude to learn new software applications as needed

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance, peripheral and color vision. Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also necessary.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Work schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
