Job Overview

The White-Glove Shipping and Receiving Specialist / Forklift Operator at SPS provides dedicated handling, delivery, setup, and transportation services for sensitive and high-value materials and equipment at the Lab126 campus. This role demands precision, care, and efficient operation of forklifts for the management of all received goods, ensuring they are accurately inventoried, undamaged, and appropriately placed according to client specifications. During times of low shipping volume, this role requires adaptability to assist with Business Service Center (BSC) and other duties to assist the on-site Integrated Facilities Management team.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Receiving:
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move shipments from loading dock to storage or work areas.
  • Receive all retreat materials and equipment shipped to the designated destination.
  • Provide a detailed inventory list of received items, noting discrepancies against provided packing slips.
  • Offload and carefully unpack all shipped materials and equipment, ensuring integrity and completeness.
  • Uncrating and Assembly:
  • Uncrate electronics and other equipment as per manufacturer's instructions using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Dispose of crates and packaging materials in designated disposal areas.
  • Delivery and Placement:
  • Safely transport equipment and materials to their designated locations within the campus using forklifts, ensuring secure and damage-free delivery.
  • Follow client-provided floor plans or instructions for precise placement.
  • Additional Services (As needed):
  • Manage on-site inventory throughout the event.
  • Make minor adjustments or reconfigurations of equipment as requested by the client.
  • Assist with packing and crating of materials and equipment for return shipment if required.
  • Assist with Business Service Center (BSC) operations across the SJC Lab Campus as needed.
  • Assist the on-site Integrated Facilities Management team across the SJC Lab Campus as needed, including support for teams that require forklift and/or furniture assembly, take-down and/or move services.
  • Maintain flexibility to support where needed, including urgent service requests.
  • Document and report issues or concerns in a timely manner.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess:

  • Certified Forklift Operator with experience in handling fragile and high-value equipment.
  • Proficient in operating different types of forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Skilled in furniture assembly and equipment installation.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safe handling practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Basic technical trouble-shooting skills.
  • Understanding of facility operations and protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and new responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to handle packages up to 60 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods.
  • Capable of operating forklifts for extended periods.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and temperatures in warehouse and loading dock areas.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and other relevant software.

Travel: Primary location will be the SJC Lab Campus. Occasional travel within 25 miles of the SJC Lab Campus may be required to SJC 10/11/13/14/26 as needed.
