About the department:

The Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY) provides Engineering, Design, and Logistics life cycle support to all fleet submarines, the Moored Training Ships, and the S8G Prototype. The organization maintains technical expertise for nuclear and non-nuclear propulsion plant systems and equipment. Our mission is to provide the U.S. Navy five-star support that increases submarine Operational Availability and Capability.

About this group:

The S8G Prototype Design Agent (PDA) Site Office is located at the Naval Propulsion Training Unit at the Kesselring Site in West Milton, NY. The S8G PDA Site Office provides material support through spare parts provisioning and configuration management for the S8G Prototype and Kesselring Site facilities critical systems. The team also performs liaison services by working closely with Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), the Navy and RPPY personnel to provide design support for alterations, and for resolving technical issues associated with systems and components under Electric Boat cognizance. The S8G PDA Site Office is also responsible for Maintenance and Material Management (3M) Program administration including fulfilling the role of a Navy 3M Coordinator (3MC).

Role Overview

In this position, individuals are responsible for the creation and maintenance of Provisioning Technical Documentation (PTD) used to identify the spare parts stocking requirements in local warehouse inventory and the Federal Supply System. The scope of provisioning includes Prototype propulsion plant systems, support systems and site critical facility systems. This position is important to the Kesselring Site's primary mission of delivering highly trained Sailors to the fleet in support of our country's defense and security. This is accomplished through ensuring material readiness with the correct parts and configuration.

Key responsibilities:
  • Review technical and procurement data (e.g., drawings, vendor literature, material history, technical manuals, historical problem reports, maintenance requirements) for spare parts and components
  • Validate Prototype propulsion plant systems, support systems and facility systems component configuration against design / drawing requirements and vendor specifications
  • Identify provisioning and configuration discrepancies, vendor obsolescence and special material requirements
  • Evaluate local warehouse and Federal Supply System inventory to determine if Site equipment is adequately supported
  • Contact equipment vendors to identify component and spare parts availabilityAssist cognizant engineers with PTD creation, maintenance and configuration in the Enterprise Business System (EBS)
  • Act as the Site Office Logistics Point of Contact for Consolidated Problem Reporting (CPR) application Logistics Liaison Action Requests (LOG LARs)
  • Initiate, report and manage the submittal and resolution of LOG LARs using the CPR application
  • Interface with System Engineers, Program Office, Management, and NAVSEA Customers
  • Act as the Site Office lead working with pertinent stakeholders to develop logistics strategies for obsolete and non-procurable items that are tracked in the Item Management Report (IMR) within the EBS
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawing views (e.g., Plan, Section, Elevation) and other technical documents including technical manuals and maintenance standards
  • Must hold or be able to hold a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Prior U.S. Navy experience
  • Familiarity with the Federal Supply System and National Stock Numbers
  • Relevant military training, vocational or technical training and apprentice programs
  • Military shipbuilding or manufacturing industry experience
  • Familiarity with submarine configuration management process
  • Experience with Naval Nuclear power
Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; particularly Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of the Enterprise Business System (EBS) and Consolidated Problem Reporting (CPR) application
  • The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter possessing strong analytical, writing, organization and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to identify problems, discern their key elements and apply problem solving techniques and skills to achieve prompt and effective resolutions is an essential skill set
  • The ability to communicate clearly, professionally and be comfortable interfacing directly with varied levels of management both verbally and in writing
  • The ability to work independently with attention to detail and accuracy in a schedule driven multi-tasking environment
