Job summary

GEODIS is seeking a Dispatcher in Phoenix to log, schedule, and track orders and vehicle movements. You will coordinate loads, manage equipment inventories, and communicate with customers to ensure on-time deliveries.

Ideal candidates have at least 6 months of dispatch experience, strong reading/comprehension skills, and the ability to generate routine reports. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and effective collaboration with the Terminal Manager and drivers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

• Logs all orders booked and all work performed onto dispatch sheet.
• Dispatches all runs in a timely manner to ensure deliveries are made as scheduled.
• Moves loaded and empty containers to and from the rail in order to meet pre-scheduled cut-off times for export loads and to prevent storage charges for inbound loads and empties.
• Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment.
• Provides customers with accurate and timely information regarding activity and equipment inventories.
• Assists in billing by writing up cover sheets and matching with work orders or delivery orders.
• Assists Terminal Manager in all phases of managing the operation.
• Compiles list of available vehicles.
• Assigns vehicles according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight requirements, and preference of user.
• Issues keys, record sheets, credentials, and equipment to drivers.
• Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.
• Investigates overdue vehicles.
• Directs activities of drivers by two-way radio.
• Tracks in-transit shipments.
• Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise.
• Maintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses.
• Establishes service or delivery routes.
• Other duties as required and assigned
