Activity-related hazards involve burn or heat sources, electrical cords and tools, and energized equipment. Ergonomic hazards include lifting, awkward postures, repetitive motion, and prolonged periods of standing or sitting. Specific job functions increase these risks: sitting at a workstation for long periods can lead to back, shoulder, hand, and arm injuries, as well as eye strain; standing for extended periods may result in strains, sprains, and leg or knee injuries; walking throughout the building introduces the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Tasks such as cleaning up spills, packaging sample shipments, and handling materials can expose employees to bloodborne pathogens, cuts, punctures, and strain injuries. Additionally, improper use of tools or failure to maintain clear walkways increases the likelihood of slips, trips, and falls. Overall, employees must follow proper safety protocols, use ergonomic practices, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment to minimize these risks and maintain a safe working environment.
