Job summary

Shin-Etsu Silicones of America in Akron, OH seeks a Logistics Analyst who owns the process of designing and executing domestic and international freight strategies. You will work with freight forwarders, carriers, and internal teams to ensure compliant, cost-efficient shipments.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant logistics experience acceptable with education.
  • Experience with import/export, freight forwarders, brokers, ISF, Incoterms.
  • Hazardous materials shipping certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Track ocean containers, tanks and air shipments imported into the United States from origin through final delivery.
  • Monitor vessel schedules, ETAs, port/airport arrivals, container availability, customs clearance, holds, demurrage, detention, and delivery appointments.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, terminals, carriers, and customs brokers.
  • Support ISF submissions and ensure required information is provided accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and submit documentation to customs brokers for timely clearance.
  • Coordinate exports from the United States to international customers with freight forwarders and carriers.
  • Review freight invoices and identify discrepancies and charges; resolve issues.
  • Establish SOPs for international and domestic transportation activities.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of logistics issues and implement corrective actions.

Job Summary

The Logistics Analyst is responsible for creating domestic and international freight strategies, including ocean imports, exports, air freight, customs brokerage documentation, and domestic transportation. This position works closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure shipments move efficiently, compliantly, and cost-effectively.

  • Track ocean containers, tanks and air shipments being imported into the United States from origin through final delivery.
  • Monitor vessel schedules, ETAs, port/airport arrivals, container availability, customs clearance, holds, demurrage, detention, and delivery appointments. Proactively communicate changes in schedules to internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate expedited transportation options when shipment timing or customer requirements demand alternative solutions.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, terminals, carriers, and customs brokers.
  • Support Importer Security Filing (ISF) submissions and ensure required information is provided accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation to customs brokers to support timely customs clearance.
  • Manage shipments involving foreign-to-foreign movements, including coordinating ocean containers shipped between international destinations without entering the United States.
  • Coordinate export shipments from the United States to international customers and destinations working with freight forwarders, carriers, customers, and international partners to ensure export shipments are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Follow company trade compliance policies and applicable U.S. import/export regulations.
  • Create quotes for air freight and ocean imports and exports.
  • Select appropriate LTL and FTL carriers based on cost, service level, transit time, capacity, equipment requirements, and destination.
  • Coordinate pickups and deliveries between ports, airports, warehouses, suppliers, and customers. Obtain and compare transportation rates and negotiate freight costs when appropriate.
  • Monitor shipment status and resolve delivery issues, delays, shortages, damages, and accessorial charges.
  • Maintain accurate shipment and logistics data in company ERP system.
  • Review freight invoices and identify discrepancies, unexpected charges, and billing issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, reduce freight costs, and optimize carrier selection.
  • Work with customs ACE systems and generate reports for duty drawback programs.
  • Reviews HTS classifications to ensure compliance with company practices.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert for international logistics, transportation, Incoterms, import/export processes, and trade compliance. Provide guidance to other Logistics team members and/or others in the organization as needed.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of recurring logistics issues and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for international and domestic transportation activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Will also accept equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in logistics, import/export, freight forwarders, custom brokers, ISF, Incoterms and trade compliance practices.
  • Certification for hazardous material shipments is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations for ocean shipments, Department of Transportation (DOT) for domestic shipments, and International Air Transportation Association (IATA) regulations for air shipments is required.
  • Knowledge of import/export trade compliance processes is required.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups and be self-motivated in both settings.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. This includes being proactive in your approach to all issues in order to identify or eliminate potential problem areas.
  • Detail oriented, analytical, and good with numbers.
  • This position operates primarily in a professional office environment.
  • The role routinely uses standard office equipment.
