Kroger is seeking a transportation leader to oversee distribution-center to store deliveries with multi-PL operations. You will coordinate with carriers, monitor performance, and support backhaul planning in a fast-paced multi-state region.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in transportation/logistics, strong analytical skills and a proactive, collaborative mindset to optimize costs and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Oversee delivery from distribution centers with 3PLs to stores, ensuring cost-effectiveness and on-time delivery.
• Communicate with external carriers to resolve issues and review operations.
• Identify and communicate daily backhaul plans and lane opportunities.
• Assist budgeting and transportation performance analysis with accounting data.
• Coordinate with maintenance to meet preventive maintenance standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams to optimize deliveries and pickups.
• Develop schedules with divisions, KTC, DCs, plants and 3PLs for normal/holiday deliveries.
• Respond to emergencies to guarantee deliveries, including off-hours.
• Supervise and coach staff; conduct performance reviews.

Job description

Responsible for providing oversight and coordinating the efficient, cost-effective transport of product from distribution warehouses with complex/multiple third party transportation operations to retail stores in a multi-state region. Serve as site contact/liaison with outside carriers on all transportation activities which includes P&L responsibilities. Responsibilities

• Oversee the delivery of product from distribution centers with complex/multiple third party transportation operations to stores in the most cost-effective manner and ensure 3PL carrier achieves precise delivery times
• Communicate with external carriers to resolve issues and review all operations activities which include but not limited to, managing tractor/trailer equipment to optimal efficiency, driver staffing, daily route plans, on-time delivery/pickup status, 3PL contract compliance
• Identify, manage, and communicate daily backhaul plans and exceptions to the Kroger Transportation Center (KTC) along with identifying possible new backhaul lanes
• Assist financial analyst with analyzing report data to measure and improve transportation performance, budget, expenses invoices
• Coordinate with maintenance team to ensure Original Equipment Manufacturer preventative maintenance standards are met and ensure repairs to equipment are timely
• Collaborate with account managers, divisions, (KTC), and DCs in the oversight of right-sizing deliveries and pickups to/from our stores along with resolving any day-to-day opportunities
• Collaborate with divisions, KTC, DCs, MFG plants, and 3PL carrier(s) to develop normal and holiday/promotional delivery schedules
• Respond to emergency and changing situations to guarantee deliveries/pickups from our customers which may include off-hours and holidays
• Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports

Qualifications

MINIMUM

• Associate Degree in business related field or equivalent in work experience
• 4+ years of experience in transportation and logistics
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

• Expertise in shipping, receiving and inventory management and transportation
• Knowledge/understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements
