Job summary

AMERICAN WOOD FIBERS in Marshall, TX is seeking a Log Yard Heavy Equipment Operator to help maximize production of wood flour and shavings. You will safely operate yard equipment and coordinate with truck drivers, ensuring efficient movement of logs and finished product across the yard.

The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, pass background and drug screening, and work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Production: work with shavers to meet shift goals.
• Keep shavers operational and efficient.
• Cut logs to specifications and maintain yard inventory.
• Evaluate logs before unloading from freight shipments.
• Monitor the quality of the shavings produced.
• Uphold and obey safety precautions in the plant.
• Operate loader/knuckle boom/skid steer safely.
• Coordinate with truck drivers to maintain yard flow and safety.
• Move wood logs around the yard.
• Work in all weather conditions.

Log Yard Heavy Equipment Operator

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Works in a safe, efficient manner to maximize production and shipping of wood flour and shavings.

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• PRODUCTION
• Work closely with other shavers to keep production of wood shavings on track to meet shift goals
• Must keep shavers operational and at their best efficiency at all times – includes filling up the shaver boxes, monitoring equipment, and effectively moving logs around the log yard
• Cut logs to specifications and maintain an orderly yard for inventory counts
• Evaluate logs before unloading from freight shipments
• Monitor the quality of the shavings being produced.
• Uphold and obey all warnings and safety precautions used in the plant
• LOADER/KNUCKLE BOOM/HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
• Safely operate industrial equipment including: articulated wheel loader, knuckle boom, and skid steer
• Clean and maintain the machine with regular greasing and cleaning of all necessary systems
• Coordinate with truck drivers in the yard to maintain a path in and out of the plant, while keeping everyone safe and out of harm’s way
• Responsible for the movement of wood – logs throughout the log yard
• Must be able to safely operate around people and other machinery
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions
• SAFETY
• Participates in monthly safety meetings.
• Uses required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participates in necessary training sessions and achieves satisfactory results on required tests.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift 50lbs or more. May need to stand outside for long periods of time in all weather conditions. (Proper PPE will be provided)
