Job summary

Interfor in Fayette, Alabama is hiring a Log Scaler to accurately measure and grade incoming logs, ensuring quality and inventory accuracy. The role emphasizes safety, attention to detail, and adherence to SOPs in a busy sawmill environment.

You’ll process log trucks, document scaling activities, and support procurement with data and reports. The position offers competitive hourly pay and benefits, with overtime and weekend work as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/Equivalent preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Windows, Outlook and Excel.
• Working knowledge of log quality characteristics and their impact on lumber production.
• Understanding of lumber manufacturing principles and processes.
• Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver unfavorable information in a professional and constructive manner.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Accurately process all incoming log trucks and by-product shipments in accordance with sawmill SOPs.
• Inspect, scale, and grade log loads using established guidelines and document scaling/grading activities.
• Maintain attention to detail when identifying log quality issues and variances.
• Communicate log quality and scaling concerns clearly with sawmill operations and procurement managers.
• Follow SOPs related to overweight loads, load spreading, and load rejection.
• Support log procurement and sawmill operations through accurate data collection and participation in process improvements.
• Prepare and maintain daily log receipt and by-product shipment reports.
• Test, grade, and record Chip Quality Data as required by location.
• Conduct weekly inventory reconciliation.
• Verify lumber shipments and supporting documentation for accuracy when applicable.
• Maintain scalehouse, scales, and manage scaling supplies; coordinate maintenance on scales.
• Perform other duties including data collection, training, and report production.
