Job summary

Watco in Seadrift, TX is hiring a Locomotive Mechanic to inspect, repair, and maintain locomotives in compliance with company standards and FRA regulations. The role involves ensuring safety, documenting inspections, and performing emergency repairs as needed.

The position requires a valid driver’s license, Class B CDL, and FRA-related Service Engineer qualifications. On-the-job training and advancement opportunities are provided at Watco’s training facilities.

Qualifications

• Must pass and obtain reporting, testing, and certifications for motors, generators, and transformers
• Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable by company
• Have or be able to obtain Class B CDL
• Have the ability to become a qualified Service Engineer according to FRA regulations
• Able to complete a three-year Railroad Apprenticeship, if required

Responsibilities

• Provide a level of customer service consistent with company expectations
• Obtain working knowledge and proper use of gauges and testing equipment
• Complete FRA reports pertaining to mechanist duties
• Become qualified Service Engineer per FRA regulations
• Dismantle devices using hoists, cranes, and power tools to repair parts
• Record hour meter readings for inspections and maintenance
• Check locomotives for air-fuel, oil, and leaks; clean as needed
• Inspect safety equipment and securing bolts
• Perform main bearing checks and air brake tests
• Inspect wheels according to wheel inspection report
• Operate basic tools and equipment for repairs
