Job summary

Railserve is seeking an experienced Locomotive Mechanic in Decatur, IL. The role supports maintenance of a locomotive fleet, performing scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and field repairs to ensure safe, reliable operations.

Tools and a company truck are provided; some certifications are considered when determining starting pay. Ideal candidates are mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and able to work independently in outdoor industrial environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or technical training preferred.
• Strong mechanical experience required.
• Electrical troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to operate cutting torch and electrical welder.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on locomotives.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical locomotive issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, invoices, and reports.
• Communicate maintenance updates with customers and operations teams.
• Safely operate cutting torches and welding equipment.
• Conduct periodic safety inspections on equipment.
• Assist in identifying and correcting safety hazards.
