Job summary

State of Michigan is seeking a locksmith to perform installation, maintenance and repair of locks, doors, and hardware across state facilities. Responsibilities include opening locks on doors and safes and changing lock combinations at the worksite.

The role also covers related carpentry for door hardware, mechanisms and frames. The position requires education typically obtained with a high school diploma and offers pathways for Locksmith 7–8 and E9 equivalencies, including vocational training

Qualifications

• Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
• Two years of experience assisting in the locksmith trade.
• Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of locks, including two years equivalent to a Locksmith 8.
• Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for locksmithing may be substituted for two years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of locksmith and electronic access system duties, including installation, maintenance and repair of locks, doors and hardware.
• Open locks on doors and safes and change lock combinations in state facilities at the worksite.
• General carpentry tasks related to repairing, adjusting and maintaining door hardware, mechanisms and frames as needed.
