Job description

IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Localization Editor with demonstrated expertise in Canadian English language conventions and culture. In this role, you will work closely with curriculum designers and content writers to ensure our language arts, math, and science items are linguistically correct, grade appropriate, and culturally suitable for the Canadian edition of our product.

This is a remote 1099 consulting role for 6 months with possible extension. It is open to candidates in the US, UK, or Canada. #LI-REMOTE

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Review IXL content and suggest necessary adaptations for our Canadian edition. Considerations will include:
  • Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and terminology conventions of Canadian English
  • Cultural relevance for Canadian students (i.e., avoiding US-centrism)
  • Adherence to IXL style guide specifications
  • Grade-level appropriateness
• Ensure overall quality and consistency of language arts, math, and science content for Canada
• Answer IXL queries pertaining to Canadian English language and cultural customs

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• BA/BS degree in a relevant field and prior experience in an editing role
• Impeccable knowledge of Canadian English linguistic conventions
• Superior writing and editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail
• Familiarity working with style manuals and guides (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style)
• Strong understanding of Canadian culture and customs
• Understanding of K–12 students’ reading and knowledge levels
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and be efficient and organized while managing a queue of assignments
• Proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets
• Experience or interest in the Canadian education system is a plus
• Experience or background in math, science, or English language arts is a plus
