Job summary

The City of Naperville’s Electric Utility is seeking a Substation Technician to install and maintain substation equipment and components, including high voltage lines, transformers, switchgear, and related gear. The Technician tests and repairs substation equipment and performs maintenance in energized or near-energized environments, often in confined spaces.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Post-twelfth grade technical training in electrical maintenance, electronics or related fields.
• Journeyman line worker certificate or 1–3 years substation experience.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, repair and maintain substation equipment and switchgear.
• Work with high voltage lines and components, including transformers and buswork.
• Perform work in confined spaces and near energized equipment as required.
• Assist in substation construction and routine maintenance tasks.
