Cardio IC (Cardiovascular Intensive Care)

Job Location

Peoria, Illinois.

Position Overview

Medical Solutions is seeking a local contract RN in the CVICU for a 13‑week assignment. The role involves 36 hours per week on 12‑hour night shifts (7 pm–7 am). This is a local contract position.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intensive cardiovascular nursing care for post‑open heart surgical patients, including CABG, valve procedures, and other cardiovascular interventions.
• Manage complex equipment such as IABPs, Impella, Swan Ganz, ECMO, external pacemakers, CRRT, arterial lines, IVC filters, ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, high flow and nitric oxide.
• Titrate hemodynamic support drips (dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, etc.) and other medication infusions per protocol and standing orders.
• Interpret telemetry, hemodynamic strips and monitor data using Philips systems; collaborate with dedicated monitor techs.
• Maintain patient‑to‑nurse ratios of 1:1 to 1:2 depending on acuity, with assistance from PCTs (1:12‑1:15) and charge nurses/house supervisors on all shifts.
• Co‑ordinate with CV APNs, PAs, respiratory therapists, and other clinical staff for optimal patient outcomes.
• Float to all levels of care as required and take a full team.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of CVICU experience (more preferred).
• Certification in BLS and ACLS (ACLS preferred). CCRN certification is a plus.
• Proficiency with cardiovascular ICU equipment and patient populations (e.g., VAD, transplant, post‑CABG, STEMI, cardiogenic shock).
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment.
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry and monitor strips.
