Job description

South Mill is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Local CDL-A Driver to handle local freight deliveries and backhauls. This role ensures timely pickups and deliveries while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards. This is a local driving position with daily routes and consistent dispatch support.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a tractor-trailer on assigned local routes
• Perform required pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections
• Deliver and pick up freight in a timely and professional manner
• Back trailers into dock areas and maneuver in tight spaces
• Maintain communication with dispatch throughout the workday
• Complete required delivery paperwork and ELD logs accurately
• Report any vehicle maintenance or safety concerns promptly
• Maintain compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and company policies

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class A license
• Minimum one (1) year of tractor‑trailer driving experience
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
• Valid DOT medical certification
• Ability to read and communicate in English (DOT requirement)
• Ability to operate Electronic Logging Devices (ELD)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and climb as needed
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly (more as needed)
• Ability to safely enter and exit the tractor multiple times per shift

Work Environment

• Exposure to varying weather conditions
• Warehouse and loading dock environments
• Professional interaction with customers and team members required
