Job summary

The Town of Dracut in Massachusetts is seeking a Local Building Inspector to support the Inspector of Buildings in enforcing zoning bylaws and state building codes. Qualifications

• Requires five years of experience in supervision of building construction or design, or an associate's degree plus equivalent experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel; OpenGov software training will be provided.
• Must hold a valid Class D driver's license and have access to a vehicle for inspections; mileage reimbursed at IRS rate.
• Able to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Able to interact with the public, enforcing regulations impartially.

Responsibilities

• Reviews plans and specifications, approves, issues and/or denies building permits.
• Conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with Town and State regulations and by-laws.
• Inspects schools, commercial buildings and others as required by State law.
• Handles counter inquiries, complaints, applications, etc.
• Responds to and investigates complaints; appearances before Town Boards or in court as needed.
• Keeps accurate public records and reports.
• Works with other Town Departments and State officials.
• Other duties as required or assigned.
