Certifications/Licenses Required:
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License for at least five (5) years
- Two (2) year Associates Degree in a field related to building construction or design, or a four (4) year degree in a related field for inspector or building commissioner
- Combination of education and work experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability
Summary:
The City of Chicopee's Building Department is hiring a Local Building Inspector to enforce the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), and City ordinances to ensure public safety and protection.
Essential Duties Include:
- Enforce provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR, and other relevant statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, or bylaws.
- Act on questions related to construction methods and materials for buildings and structures.
- Receive applications and issue permits for construction, alteration, or demolition, and inspect the premises for compliance.
- Enforce compliance with issued permits and notices or orders.
- Conduct necessary inspections to ensure adherence to codes.
- Inspect and investigate zoning issues as assigned by the Building Commissioner.
Qualifications:
- Five (5) years' supervisory experience in construction or design related to the State Building Code.
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License for at least five (5) years.
- Two (2) year Associates Degree or four (4) year degree in a related field.
- Knowledge of building construction, fire prevention, safety standards, and accessible design standards.
