Job summary

Sierra Pacific Mortgage is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to train on our mortgage platform and grow into a Mortgage Loan Originator within about six months. You will source applications, develop referrals, and manage client relationships while learning to originate conventional and government loans.

Ideal candidates have a strong customer-service background, basic mortgage knowledge, and the ability to explain loan options clearly.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree plus two years of customer service/sales experience or equivalent.
  • Mortgage sales/industry experience preferred.
  • NMLS License plus state-specific training and certification.
  • Understanding of mortgage laws, guidelines and loan programs.
  • Familiarity with local real estate market.
  • Strong communication to explain mortgage process to customers and teammates.
  • Ability to read promissory notes and loan documents.
  • Plan, organize, and complete tasks timely and consistently.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and provide concise information to management.
  • Interpret a variety of technical instructions and adapt under pressure.
  • Apply basic math for loan calculations; basic computer skills with mortgage software.

Responsibilities

  • Train on SPM systems and processes with goal to become Mortgage Loan Originator in ~6 months.
  • Participate in mortgage origination sales training to support evolution into MLO role.
  • Source applications, originate conventional and government loans, and service existing clients.
  • Develop external referral networks to generate origination loan volume.
  • Identify new referral sources via real estate brokers, developers, builders, and financial planners.
  • Engage in business development activities to maintain a network of referrals.
  • Create information mailings, advertisements, and seminars for homebuyers.
  • Cultivate repeat business from existing borrowers.
  • Consult with borrowers to assess loan needs and explain options and risks.
  • Guide customers through the loan process and coordinate with underwriters.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the application process and clear conditions for closing.
  • Perform other mortgage-related duties as requested by management.

MUST HAVES
  • Associate degree plus two years of customer service/sales experience or equivalent
  • Mortgage sales and/or industry experience preferred
  • NMLS License plus training and on-going certification required by the state where the licensee is currently employed
  • Basic understanding of current mortgage laws, guidelines and loan programs
  • Familiarity with real estate market in local area
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain the mortgage process and effectively interact with customers and internal resources
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as promissory notes, regulatory and legal directives and other loan documents
  • Able to plan and organize tasks and work responsibilities to achieve objectives
  • Able to complete work in a timely and consistent manner
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and provide information that is thorough and concise to management for resolution
  • Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions
  • Able to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines
  • Able to apply basic math: compute loan amounts, income and other mortgage related calculations
  • Basic computer skills required: word processing, email and mortgage software
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Train on SPM systems, policies and processes with the goal of transitioning into a Mortgage Loan Originator in approximately six months’ time
  • Participate in mortgage origination sales training necessary to support evolution into MLO role
  • Manage relationships, source applications, originate conventional and government residential mortgage loans, perform sales-generating activities, service and maintain current clients
  • Responsible for the cultivation of external lead sources to generate origination loan volume
  • Identify and establish new referral sources through a variety of sales efforts including but not limited to: visiting the offices of real estate brokers, developers, builders and financial planners, to solicit referrals for mortgage loans
  • Regularly participate in business development activities with professional organizations to maintain a network of quality business relationships that serve as a recurring source of referrals for new mortgage lending opportunities
  • Attract new borrowers through the creation of information mailings, advertisements, seminars focused on home buyers and participation in community efforts to promote homeownership
  • Cultivate repeat business from existing base of borrowers
  • Consult with borrowers to identify their loan needs, assess/analyze their financial situation, determine the correct loan options and provide information relevant to the risks and benefits of each program for which each borrower is qualified
  • Guide customers through the loan process by obtaining all borrower required documents, providing borrowers with regulatory disclosures and assist with the submission to underwriters
  • Coordinate all aspects of the mortgage application process with appropriate parties
  • Resolve outstanding issues in order to clear conditions and facilitate the closing of the loan
  • Other duties and/or mortgage related tasks as requested by management
