Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Lending Assistants; foster a high-performing, client-focused environment.
  • Oversee daily workflow; assign priorities and monitor production for timely processing, closing, booking, and servicing of loans.
  • Serve as primary contact for escalated issues; resolve complex loan documentation and customer service matters.
  • Ensure loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Review loan documentation for accuracy (descriptions, signatures, vesting, collateral, insurance).
  • Monitor pipeline activity; coordinate with lenders, Credit Administration, and third parties to facilitate closings.
  • Assist with complex loan transactions, renewals, modifications, extensions, and exception management.
  • Develop workflow improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk.

Job description

A well-established financial institution with a strong commitment to relationship banking is seeking an experienced Lending Assistant Supervisor to lead and support its commercial lending operations team. This individual will oversee the daily activities of the Lending Assistant staff while ensuring efficient loan processing, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service to both internal lending partners and clients.

The Lending Assistant Supervisor will serve as the primary resource for workflow management, staff development, quality assurance, and process improvement within the lending support function. This role requires a strong background in commercial lending operations, leadership experience, and the ability to balance production responsibilities with team supervision in a fast-paced banking environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Lending Assistants, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and customer-focused work environment
  • Oversee daily workflow, assigning priorities and monitoring production to ensure timely processing, closing, booking, and servicing of commercial and consumer loans
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated operational issues, resolving complex loan documentation, processing, and customer service matters
  • Ensure loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal policies, lending procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Review loan documentation for accuracy, including legal descriptions, signatures, vesting, collateral documentation, insurance, and other critical loan details
  • Monitor pipeline activity and coordinate with Commercial Lenders, Credit Administration, Loan Operations, attorneys, title companies, appraisers, and other third parties to facilitate timely loan closings
  • Assist with complex loan transactions, renewals, modifications, extensions, and exception management as needed
  • Develop and implement workflow improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce operational risk, and improve the overall customer experience
  • Monitor departmental service levels, production metrics, and quality standards while ensuring deadlines are consistently met
  • Provide ongoing training and mentorship to Lending Assistants, ensuring adherence to bank policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Partner with lending leadership to identify staffing needs, support performance evaluations, and assist with employee development planning
  • Perform quality control reviews and assist with internal audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance initiatives
  • Maintain strong working relationships with lenders and clients while providing exceptional customer service throughout the lending process
  • Assist borrowers with loan inquiries and provide guidance regarding documentation requirements, loan servicing, and account maintenance
  • Promote operational consistency while identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance controls, and strengthen team performance
  • Support departmental projects, system implementations, and strategic initiatives as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial lending or loan operations experience within a financial institution
  • Prior supervisory, team lead, or management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of commercial loan documentation, processing, closing, booking, and servicing procedures
  • Thorough understanding of commercial lending regulations, compliance requirements, and banking operations
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop employees while effectively managing workflow and competing priorities
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
