Job summary

Cathay Bank is hiring for Loan Assistant / Sr. Loan Assistant (Finance) to support the Corporate Lending Department in El Monte, CA. The role involves preparing underwriting packages, uploading documents, and coordinating with Loan Officers on closings and funding.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of customer service/administrative experience (Sr. 2+ years in commercial lending). Bilingual English/Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus.

Qualifications

• Sr. Loan Assistant requires a minimum of 2+ years in commercial lending or similar financial services environment
• Loan Assistant requires a minimum of 1-2 years of customer service, administrative and experience meeting deadlines
• PC Proficient and detail oriented; Bilingual English/Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus; ability to interact with customers and management

Responsibilities

• Order reports including appraisal, environmental, credit search and other related reports as required
• Prepare new and renewed underwriting packages
• Create and set up deals in Loan Origination System while scanning and uploading necessary information
• Support Loan Officers in loan closing and funding including coordinating with the signing of loan documents
• Underwrite new and renewed loans under $1 million when needed
• Assist Loan Officers with credit modifications and amendments
• Assist Loan Officers in customer service and follow up on outstanding items
• Assist Loan Officers with various account monitoring activities
• Prepare and distribute routine reports
• Maintain loan files and follow up reporting and financing covenants
• Assist with coordinating and training tasks for less experienced Loan Assistants

Under limited supervision and following established policies and department procedures, provide administrative support for the Corporate Lending Department, including the essential functions listed below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Order reports including appraisal, environmental, credit search and other related reports as required.
• Prepare new and renewed underwriting packages.
• Create and set up deals in Loan Origination System while scanning and uploading necessary information.
• Support Loan Officers in loan closing and funding including coordinating with the signing of loan documents and collection of other pre-closing items with customers and loan support officers for loan closing.
• Underwrite new and renewed loans under $1 million dollars when needed.
• Assist Loan Officers with credit modifications and amendments.
• Assist Loan Officers in customer service and follow up on outstanding items.
• Assist Loan Officers with various account monitoring activities.
• Prepare and distribute routine reports.
• Maintain loan files and follow up reporting and financing covenants.
• Assist with coordinating and training tasks for less experienced Loan Assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: College degree in business or finance preferred or equivalent experience
• Experience:
  
  • Sr. Loan Assistant requires a minimum of 2+ years in commercial lending or similar financial services environment.
  • Loan Assistant requires a minimum of 1-2 years of customer service, administrative and experience meeting deadlines
• Skills/Ability: PC Proficient and detail oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (English/ Mandarin or Cantonese) is a plus. Ability to effectively interact with customers and all levels of management

OTHER DETAILS

Loan Assistant: $20.82 – $23.56 / hour

Sr. Loan Assistant: $24.04 – $26.92 / hour
Pay determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
