Job summary

Great Plains Bank is seeking a Loan Assistant to support loan underwriting and ongoing loan maintenance. The role emphasizes servicing commercial, consumer, and real estate loans and maintaining strong customer communications throughout the loan lifecycle.

The successful candidate will handle document preparation, data entry, and report distribution while assisting newer staff and ensuring policy compliance across loan activities. Strong MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; college certificate preferred; at least 2-3 years of similar work experience.
  • Ability: Solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Skills: Read, analyze, and interpret procedures and regulations; write reports and correspondence; present information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Loan Policy and Procedures set forth by the bank.
  • Process loan payments and advances; review approvals for completeness; generate loan documents; board and update loan records.
  • Maintain UCC-1 filings; monitor tickler reports and follow-ups; run daily and monthly reports.
  • Provide customer service by phone or in person; respond to loan inquiries; send letters and brochures to customers.
  • Advise customers about loan or credit information; cross-sell bank products as appropriate.

Summary

This position is responsible for providing support and assistance during the process of loan underwriting as well as maintaining customer communication during the life of the loan for loan maintenance. This individual will perform various duties that support efforts in meeting needs of loan customers as well as developing new customer relationships. Job functions will include commercial, consumer and real estate loans. The position of Loan Assistant is required to be fully knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of servicing loans, and is expected to provide leadership, training and support to less experienced department personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adheres to Loan Policy and Procedures set forth by the bank.
  • Performs all related Loan Department responsibilities including, but not limited to; running credit reports and conducting account research; processing consumer, commercial and real estate loan payments and advances; reviewing loan approvals for completeness; generating loan documents; preparing and sending commitment, engagement, auction and decline letters; boarding loan documents on the Bank’s computer systems; entering data to correct or update loan records; maintaining credit files; and closes paid loans and terminates collateral when applicable.
  • Maintain and update UCC-1 filings.
  • Monitoring tickler reports and following-up on exceptions; working daily and monthly reports; and distributing daily and monthly reports as needed.
  • Accepts and processes loan payments, transfers, and advances.
  • Performs computer input relating to loan applications, computes interest and payments.
  • Performs customer service duties including but not limited to: answering the telephone and handling loan customer service requests received in person or by phone.
  • Sends form letters and brochures to customers.
  • Advises customer by phone or in writing about loan or credit information.
  • Promotes and cross-sells other establishment products and services as appropriate to customer requirements.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); College certificate is preferred but not required; at least 2-3 years of similar work experience.

Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other employees, customers and the general public. Ability to calculate basic math figures and amounts. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office software.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Physical Demands

This position may require long periods of standing or sitting and may include long periods of typing and repetitive motion. Candidates must possess the ability to lift and carry cash drawers, coin bags, and boxes sometimes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
