Job summary

Oldcastle APG, a CRH Company, is seeking an on-site Regional EHS & Sustainability specialist based in Phoenix, AZ. You will drive environmental, health and safety compliance programs, develop strategies to meet regulatory requirements, and work with management to minimize risico. The role includes field work and training responsibilities.

The candidate will require a science-based degree and 1–2 years of related experience, with strong OSHA/EPA knowledge and willingness to travel up to 50%.

Job Summary

Responsible for the overall Regional Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS) compliance. Implements procedures and programs to minimize EHS risks and ensures regulatory compliance by performing the duties described below.

Job Location
  • This is an onsite role based in Phoenix, AZ
Job Responsibilities
  • Manage environmental project activities including scheduling, tracking, and planning for environmental assessments, site investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial action plans.
  • Develop a compliance strategy to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advise management accordingly.
  • Participate in workers compensation claims processes with Management, HR, and carriers, including accident investigations, monitoring of claims, and proper reporting and follow-up.
  • Negotiate settlements of all citations and responses to OSHA and environmental compliance issues.
  • Develop and implement sampling and monitoring plans which may include installing, operating, and maintaining equipment that monitors air, land, and/or water pollution levels.
  • Assess environmental risk of activities and advise team members of environmental impact.
  • Work with Maintenance, Engineering and related departments on equipment safety, design, installation, and compliance.
  • Develop strategies to obtain environmental operating permits for new installations and modifications to existing installations.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to relevant regulatory agencies to obtain operating permits for new installations and modifications to existing permits.
  • Evaluate current and proposed codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines for impact on current and future programs and activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation for management when dealing with regulatory agencies and internal/external needs.
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for Plant Managers, General Managers and EHS Coordinators.
  • Develop appropriate safety training materials and facilitate training sessions as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of new technologies and government regulations as they relate to the industry.
  • Coordinate with the Regional EHS Director on global APG and CRH initiatives and strategies.
  • Other duties related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred in a science field) plus one to two years of related experience and/or training in related functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to lead, provide direction, coach and mentor, and problem solve.
  • Willingness to work with all levels of the company to achieve safety expectations.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret plant safety procedures and metrics.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations.
  • Understands the value and importance of a hands-on approach.
  • Must be willing to spend a considerable amount of time in the field identifying potential issues through frequent observation and soliciting input at the work area to verify root causes.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
