Job Summary:

Reporting to the Foreman, the Loader/Backhoe Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop which is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates.

Responsibilities:

  1. Operate the Loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  2. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  3. Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
  4. Operate Loader controls to lower and tilt bucket and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; Move lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled, or to dump material.
  5. Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  6. Operate Loader on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
  7. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the Loader.
  8. Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Loader.
  9. Operate other heavy equipment and perform other construction-related duties as required.
  10. Ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Conduct.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Flexibility: Ability to work in several diverse locations is pertinent, as site locations may change.
  2. Dedicated and hard working.
  3. Must comply with Drug-Free workplace requirements.
  4. Strength and Endurance: Labor work is physically demanding, and a level of physical fitness is required.
  5. Knowledge of Loader and other heavy equipment.
  6. Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
  7. Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  8. Must be 18 years of age.
  9. High school diploma/GED preferred.
  10. Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.
  11. Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds.
  12. Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.
  13. Work is performed in an outdoor setting which could include inclement weather, heat & humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  14. Out of town travel and/or overtime is a possibility.
  15. English and Spanish fluency a plus, not required.
